The DEPOT ERBE is a swap meet for cultural properties: For a period of five weeks, choreographers and artists will gather to examine their artistic material in regard to whom it can be bequeathed and to where it will go. With their formats of passing on, the artists seek active reception of their cultural heritage by the visitors and its continuation in all directions.
The call is: Who shows responsibility for the continuation of our collective memory, who brings which past, which descent, and which future along? The visitors are invited to test practices of appropriation with the artists and discuss the question: What do I take with me from an art event apart from my memories?
What belongs to whom? The DEPOT ERBE is an inter-generational heritage bureau that has deliberately chosen the museum as a venue to address the usage of cultures, traditions, and history in a dialogue with the visitors. As opposed to the classical function of a collecting and preserving museum, the DEPOT ERBE aims at a re-functioning and grasps itself as an apparatus for directly passing on cultural assets, all the way to the emptying of the museum.
What will you encounter in the DEPOT ERBE?The exhibition is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. tuesdays til sundays including public holidays, in which performances, swap meets, workshops, exhibitions, symposiums, a youth's summit, and daily lunch talks are offered.
The artists participating in DEPOT ERBE bring along different performance and exhibition concepts, but all are engaged with the shaping of culture and its sociological, historical, and anthropological traces. Most of them have already presented pieces at Theater Freiburg in the previous seasons.
